Not sure what started this, but at some point Keyshot crashed for no reason.
Ever since, if I open a scene which I worked on (not new/empty scene) Keyshot crashes once I activate GPU mode, or doesn’t even load completely if the scene was saved in GPU mode.
I figured out it has something to do with the driver, so for the past 3 months I had to roll back or completely uninstall the GPU driver and use the version from July 2022. I almost got used to it but I can’t stop windows from automatically updating the driver once per week, so I have to keep doing this. I’m sure performance would also be lowered when using a 2 years old GPU driver version. I also tried re-installing Keyshot, or installing different releases of Keyshot 11. Any sugestions?
I have a Lenovo Legion 5 Pro with RTX 3070 running Keyshot 11.2.1
Hi Andrei!
I guess you have also Geforce Experience installed since Nvidia pushes that pretty much with all latest drivers even the Studio ones.
In Geforce Experience there is an option somewhere that you can disable the auto update function. It might give you still a notification but it doesn’t automatically install the new drivers.
Not sure if your issues with Keyshot are caused by drivers, it could also be you have some material texture/file which it can’t load because it’s 0kB or has the wrong file extension. Not sure if that was a thing as well with KeyShot 11.2.1 but it has been with KeyShot 12.x
If you reinstall KeyShot 11.2.1 by default it won’t delete things from your KeyShot 11 resources folder which you put in there (in my documents). So if there is some kind of a weird material which causes trouble it won’t be solved un less you manually delete it.
A thing you could try is to move the entire KeyShot 11 folder from My Documents to a place where you keep it as backup (since it also has your own materials) and try if the scene will still hang on import. If it works you know something is wrong with the resources it uses.
I’ve Keyshot 11 also still installed so if you want and can share the troubles scene (with wetransfer.com and a private message maybe) I can check if I can simply load it without issues.
I’ve never had issues caused by the graphics driver in combination with Keyshot but nothing is impossible. It might also be a weird combination with some files in Windows which become corrupt.
For Windows there’s a check for corrupt files which is quite easy. You open the start menu and type ‘cmd’ than it finds the command prompt and you select ‘Run as Administrator’.
Than you type the next line in the command box:
sfc /scannow
That will check if no Windows files got replaced by 3rd party files. Won’t do any harm. Sometimes it finds corrupted files and you can do a reboot and if you run it again it should be fixed.
But I’m happy to take a look at your scene. If you can open it, try to save it as a KSP so it has all files. If it has problems with it, send me the .bip with the files you think are used as textures etc.
